Tweens & Self Esteem
Led by Dr. Marilyn Loh Collado and Dr. Evelyn Minaya, "Tweens and Self Esteem" is a lighthearted but poignant presentation for girls ages 10-12. The event includes a presentation from the Monmouth County's prosecutor's office on Cyberbullying and the importance of being responsible with Social Media, as well as a Social Worker's story about her own personal struggles with bullying.
Teddy Bear Clinics
A favorite outreach program geared toward kindergarteners through third graders, Riverview Medical Center's Teddy Bear Clinics were designed and implemented by the Medical Center's Emergency Department nursing team to help educate children about the experience of going to the emergency room.
Design Thinking Project
Students will be assigned projects that involve utilizing this approach to confront and improve people-centered problems. Groups of students will be paired with select Riverview Medical Center leaders to address and resolve challenges that are commonly encountered in a hospital setting.
Fitness and Pre-Workout Stretching
Riverview's Physical Therapy Team will engage children in a demonstration on why warm up exercises for kids are used to prepare their body to undertake further exercises while at the same time, they help in preventing injuries to their muscles.
Helmet Safety Education
Properly-fitted helmets can reduce the risk of head injuries by at least 45 percent, yet less than half of children 14 and under regularly wear a bike helmet. Lead by the A Team from Riverview's Emergency Care Center, and a furry friend from Hackensack Meridian's Health's Pawsitive Action Team, the children will enjoy an interactive demonstration on the importance of wearing a helmet.
A Good Night's Sleep
Children will learn the importance of a good night's sleep emphasizing that when you get enough sleep you can: pay attention better in school; be creative and think of new ideas; fight sickness so you stay healthy; be in a good mood; get along with friends and family; and solve problems better.
Pathways: Health Professional Series
Children with an interest in health sciences are invited to the hospital for a day shadowing team members from nursing, imaging, the lab and physical therapy and a behind the scenes tour of surgery, the oncology center, diagnostic imaging and Riverview's fascinating histology department and pathology lab.
Interactive Healthy Eating Cooking Demonstration
Through a presentation and interactive cooking demonstration, children will learn which foods they should eat more of, or less of, and why.
